Men no longer subtly buy unscented products from behind the counter, at their local pharmacy or drugstore. Products are now specifically geared towards men only. Men's skin is thicker than women's, this is due to testosterone and pH levels, as a result products need to be stronger to reach into the pores to clean and moisturise. Many earlier products contained alcohol, aimed at the 'manly' man, which were to astringent on the skin. Fortunately things have changed and ingredients are a lot more gentle on the male face and body.

The largest single organ of the human body is the skin. The hair growing from male skin has an inconsistent chemical composition to a woman's. This means men should use products particularly designed for their skin. Many budget products have altered the base formulation of the female line, and added a musk scent, making the products ineffective on male skin. There are many effective formulations in men's cosmetics, to care for their skin. Smaller boutique lines and products such as L'Oreal, Baxter of California and Alford and Hoff skin care, keep men looking their best.

Men's skin is 20% thicker than women's, this means any products used need to be specially composed to deal with the skin thickness.

Pores are larger than women's, accruing more dirt and grime during the day. This makes all female products on male skin counterproductive.

Times have changed and men are more satisfied using products that enhance their skin. With such an abundance of products, choosing one can be quite confusing.
