Factors that can Limit Flexibility

Not all joints are meant to be flexible

Resistance within a joint

Movement limited by bone structure

Malleability of muscle tissue, tendons and skin

The contraction and relaxation of muscle to gain the best range of movement

Joint temperature and associated tissues

Temperature of the gym, or room exercise is being performed in

Time of day exercise is being performed

At what point the body is recovering from injury

Age

Gender

One's aptitude to perform the exercise

One's committal to achieve flexibility

Clothing and equipment restrictions

Flexibility can be helped greatly by water intake, this can help with flexibility and relaxation.

The most common determinants with flexibility are connective tissue; excess fatty tissue; muscle mass; bone structure; physical injury; and disability.

My warm up at the gym would be on the rower. A great way to raise your heartbeat and make you sweat.

Benefits of a Warm Up

Make Muscles more Ply-able

When the body is cold, the range of movement is restricted, muscles are ridged and only partially contracted. Blood pump slower. Ligaments and tendons have less movement. When your body warms up blood flows faster, making you sweat. Volume of blood in the muscle is greater, making muscles more ply-able. Range of movement for tendons and ligaments becomes greater once the body warms up. A good example would be bodybuilding. Bodybuilders use and breakdown muscle fibres. The more muscle is broken down the stronger it becomes.

If you spike your heart rate with cardio exercise, when you do resistance training (weights), your body will stay more plyable throughout your workout.
